We welcome all visitors and volunteers to visit the Elephant Retirement Park very soon!

THE ELEPHANT RETIREMENT PARK PHUKET is the brainchild of Mr. Adulwit Khamya, more commonly known as Khun Noi, and the sister park of the very popular Elephant Retirement Park Chiang Mai which Noi opened in 2014. Noi and the team at the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket are extremely passionate about elephant welfare and opened the park to provide a safe and natural haven for retired and rescued elephants to live free. There are currently 3 elephants living at the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket – 1 year old Sophie, 3 year old Bua & 5 year old Diamond. All 3 elephants were rescued from the entertainment industry where they were forced to learn & perform circus tricks and provide elephant rides for tourists & even perform street begging. All 3 elephants have suffered a traumatic past with abuse part of their daily lives.

“It has been a huge amount of work but watching the progress unfold day-by-day and the satisfaction of seeing the elephants roaming free in their new home is very rewarding!”

Nam Mon

In July 2017 a fourth elephant is schedule to arrive at the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket which has the whole park very very excited!

Nam Mon (meaning chrism or holy water) is a 14 year old female elephant currently working at a Phuket riding park but is heavily pregnant whilst still being forced to provide tourist rides.

Nam Mon also suffered a fall into a gorge while working prior to becoming pregnant. Noi and the team have been working hard to negotiate her release from the riding park so she can come to live at the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket and have a safe place to give birth which is very exciting!

We hope to provide further updates on her arrival very soon including a restricted public viewing of the wonderful birth!

Over the coming weeks the park will become home to 8 or 9 elephants in total which will be close to capacity for the parks size and facilities. In the future Noi hopes to purchase some adjoining land to expand the parks size and enable more and more elephants to be able to come and enjoy a happy life at the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket.

Purchasing additional land, rescuing elephants & caring after elephants is very expensive work. One elephant can cost up to THB2million (USD$59,000) and elephants love to eat! Elephants can spend up to 18-20 hours a day feeding, with adult elephants eating between 100-300kg of food or around 10% of their body weight per day. As herbivores, elephants love to consume ripe bananas, watermelon, sugar cane, corn, grasses, leaves, bamboo, tree bark, and other fruits. Elephants also need a lot of water and can drink up to 200 liters of water a day.

Once open, the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket will offer a number of fun and educational elephant care programs enabling visitors and volunteers to come and meet & interact with the wonderful elephants. The most popular program will be the Half Day Elephant Care Program (Adults THB2,600 / Child 4-9 years THB1,800 / Child under 3 years Free) which lasts for 3.5hrs morning and afternoon. Participants will learn about the history and culture of the elephants, prepare their food & healthy treats, feed the elephants, enjoy mud & sand spa time, bathing and lots more. Everyone will also receive a FREE customized park tank top!

We very much look forward to welcoming you all to the Elephant Retirement Park Phuket very sooooon!
